REGISTRATION
Voice registers are divided into three categories, the upper, middle and lower. Some would argue there are only two — chest and head. For purposes of this site I consider that there are three:
- The upper register — Stretches over a range from the note “E” just above Middle “C” to high “G.”
- The middle register — Middle C to E above third space C
- The lower register – A just below Middle C to third space C
Through training and, of course, natural placement (tessitura} of the voice, the registers can be extended higher and lower. The above registrations apply to the male voice as well with the male voice sounding an octave below that of the female.
REGISTER BREAKS
There are naturally occurring breaks between registers. They occur in two different places in the scale.
